Sundry Update

Apologies for the radio silence over here little blog.  I've been taking a writing course which, while excellent and wonderful and sincerely the highlight of my week these days, has left my brain just a touch drained of creativity and time for blog posts.  Add to that another insanely busy week at the office (how do they manage to do that week after week?) and that pretty much sums up my neglectfulness.  Yet I know I'll somehow find my groove with all of this, just like I always do, and I'll get back to more frequent postage.  Pinky swear.

Oh, also, Boston had a little bit of a snowstorm last weekend.  You may have seen some of the coverage on the news?  You may have noticed shots of 24.9 inches of powdery white stuff?  Snow with no where to go?  A city that dealt with its fifth largest snowfall on record last weekend?  Yup, that's us.

The storm was actually exciting and lovely, in that it had the good courtesy to fall on a Friday afternoon through Saturday, allowing for the entire city to virtually shut down and curl up with a good book or five.  While I'm not exactly ready to move to North Dakota, where these kinds of storms are the norm rather than the exception, I will never tire of that electric excitement that runs through the masses when a whopper of a storm is headed our way.  Truthfully, I don't even mind all the lines at the grocery and liquor stores the night before when everyone and their mother is stocking up on food and the like.  There's a sense of camaraderie among the masses as you all stock up on eggs, bread, and milk, just as there's a sense of community the day after a blizzard, when everyone wanders out of their houses and apartments to survey the snowy damage.  On Sunday, when I finally relented and decided I should at least make some sort of attempt to shovel out my poor Jeep, I met more of my neighbors - also shoveling out their vehicles - than I had in the five years I've lived here.  In a city like Boston, one that's not entirely (ahem) known for its outgoing warmth and friendly hospitality to strangers, I find it oddly charming that we bond over snowstorms.

Also, that writing class.  It is inspiring and wonderful and I'm mourning the fact that it ends in March.  I've taken my share of writing classes in the past, but this one somehow feels and is different.  I was trying to decide why that was, exactly, when I was walking home the other night and I realized that this time, I am working my tail feather off for it.  Sure, I've worked in my other classes too, but I was bad about still moving forward with the rest of my life schedule at warp speed and not taking the appropriate amount of time to sit down and really work at my assignments, my writing.  This time around, this class feels like my absolute number one priority.  As it rightfully should, of course.

I've also made it to a couple of yoga classes, back after my doctor strictly enforced a "break" due to the pulled/strained tendon in my wrist in January.  I'm still careful not to push it and I know I'm still favoring my left hand a touch when I'm there, but man oh man, it feels good to be easing back into it...even if it's one tiny downward dog step at a time.  That hour on a yoga mat.  Oh, it keeps me sane.

So that's the long and the short of what's been going on in my little world these past few days.  Writing, Reading, Thinking, Stretching, Writing some more.  Blurg.  And working, obviously.  And shoveling the never ending snow.  And NOT being caught up on Downton Abbey.  All in all, I suppose that sounds like your typical New England February more or less, right?  (Except for that shameful bit about Downton...)

Oh, and my darling brother surprised me with flowers for Valentine's Day a day early this year.  Haven't I told you all along I somehow managed to get the best little brother?
