On Tuesday night I had the best of intentions for a blog post. I was in a brilliantly good mood, having left work just ten minutes past 5pm, instead of my usual closer to 6pm time. When I got off the T in my neighborhood there was the tiniest bit of light left in the sky, a smoky purple spring-like haze lingering over the city. As I made my way over to a local watering hole to meet some friends for a drink or two and some literary tales, I felt a spring in my step. It was getting a little warmer, the days were getting the tiniest bit longer, I had a great song playing on my iphone, Josh Ritter's newest CD had just been released, and all was right with the world.
As I sat with my two friends, sipping a glass of Malbec, and listening to local authors read aloud on varying themes, I had one of those flashes where I am almost smacked over the head with how content I feel, how grateful I am for the moment I'm in right then and there, how I wouldn't change a thing, and as I looked out the window watching the city move past, I couldn't imagine being anywhere else on the planet.
Those waves of gratitude hit fast and furious. When they arrive I do my best to savor them for I know from experience that they leave just as quickly as they arrive. "I'm going to go home and write about this," I said to myself.
Then I got home and who knows what happened, but I didn't write.
Then Wednesday arrived. And Wednesday, was, well, pretty much the opposite of Tuesday. The faux spring temps disappeared rapidly and pretty much every thing that could go wrong throughout the day did.
At least I had yoga that night. 'Twas pretty much my saving grace.
So, being in a bit of a rotten mood didn't exactly lend itself to sitting down to write either.
Yesterday there was a bit of an upswing - even with the snow that would not stop falling, but, alas there was no writing time.
Now, here I sit on a Friday, with not a whole lot of tangible updates to write about beyond the fact that it's still snowing as I type, I am so looking forward to the upcoming weekend - one that promises just the right amount of busy with quiet.
Oh, and also. There is this:
Of course, I don't really need a new winter coat; my black one is just fine. But I've been hankering for a red one lately and on a whim late last week decided I'd do a quick drive-by on Jcrew's sale page. You know, just in case. The deal I got on this coat still amazes me, one that I thought was surely a mistake and that the interwebs would notice once I finally tried to check out of the site. But no, somehow I managed to click and purchase my way through to a perfectly fitting coat that ended up being more than 65% off with free shipping and zero taxes when all was said and done.
The best part of course is that I now have free reign to make as many "the red coats are coming!" jokes as I want. For forever.
What? I do live in Boston, after all.

Love the red coat. Red is such a GREAT color. And it looks especially nice on brunettes.
That feeling you had as you met with your friends is called spring fever. Spring has that uplifting effect. Warmer days, fresh air with a hint of moisture, the smell of soil defrosting. It's coming. On its way. That was just a tease. Patience, little girl.
